Research Activities and Projects, 2001 - 2006
Supported by
the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN/BAFU) and Empa. The project
started in May 2003 and aimed in evaluating the usability of space-borne
measurements from GOME
and SCIAMACHY
for air pollution surveillance purposes, for the assessment of pollution transport
to
TEMIS (Tropospheric
Emission Monitoring Internet Service); Project Leader: Dr. Andrea Weiss
TEMIS is a project supported by the Data User Programme (DUP) from the European Space Agency (ESA). Observations from space-based instruments such as GOME on ERS-2 and SCIAMACHY on ENVISAT are processed and data sets of several tropospheric compounds are generated and open to public via the World Wide Web.
POLPO (Pollution
Hot Spot Monitoring from GOME Applied to the Po-basin); Project Leader: Dr. Andrea Weiss
Within the
framework of the POLPO
project supported by the Data User Programme (DUP) from the European Space
Agency (ESA), large pollution plumes are monitored by combination of ground
measurements (Swiss National Network for Air Quality Monitoring, NABEL),
ground-based column measurements (DOAS at Monte Cimone) and column measurements
from GOME.
SOGE (System
for Observation of Halogenated Greenhouse Gases in
SOGE is an
integrated system for observation of halogenated greenhouse gases in Europe (Mace
Head, Irland;
HALCLIM (Continuous
Measurements of Halogenated Greenhouse Gases at the Jungfraujoch); Project Leader: Dr. Stephan Reimann
Similar to
the SOGE project but focussing to
NABEL (Swiss National
Network for Air Quality Monitoring); Project Leader: Dr. Christoph Hüglin (formerly Dr. Brigitte Buchmann)
The main
objective of the Swiss National Network for Air Quality Monitoring (NABEL) is the
long-term observation of air quality in the whole of
